Discover the unspoiled beauty of Semuliki National Park, one of Uganda’s most unique and biodiverse national parks. Located in Bwamba County in Bundibugyo District, near Fort Portal, the park lies in the Albertine Rift Valley and spans an area of 220 sq km. It is an extension of the Congo’s Ituri Rainforest, making it home to some of the most rare and spectacular flora and fauna.
Semuliki is a true birder’s haven, hosting over 400 bird species, 52 species of mammals, 374 butterfly species, and over 300 recorded tree species. Key wildlife includes hyenas, white-tailed mongoose, buffaloes, leopards, elephants, and vervet monkeys. You will also visit Uganda’s largest hot spring, trek chimpanzees, and enjoy both day and night game drives.
Morning: After breakfast, visit the famous Sempaya Hot Springs, where boiling water jets out from an 8-meter-wide geyser. Here, you can even boil eggs or plantains in the natural boiling water!
As you walk the trail to the hot springs, keep an eye out for red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and vibrant birdlife.
Continue on a guided nature walk to Mungilo Waterfall, a peaceful haven for birds and butterflies, perfect for nature photographers and birding enthusiasts.
Optional Activity: Chimpanzee trekking, Semuliki offers unique opportunities to see chimpanzees either in the morning or evening, as they often retreat during the hotter parts of the day.
Afternoon: Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Evening: Go for another game drive through the park for a chance to see elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, lions, and hippos or crocodiles along the Semuliki River.
Morning: Enjoy your final breakfast at the lodge.
